The Chair Man
Craft upholsterer studio with revamped, second-hand dining and kitchen chairs
Andy started out as a journalist and most recently was an editor for a cycling magazine, which he liked as he’s a keen cyclist. Over the years Andy has always enjoyed repairing things and mending chairs became his hobby. Four years ago, he started buying old chairs and doing them up and selling. Hearing about a local designer fair , Andy set up The Chair Man “I really like mending things and the complete change you can effect on a chair”. Almost all his furniture is bought locally from junk shops, second hand stalls, front gardens and recycled material from end of stock roll. Andy sometimes takes trips to the country, namely Suffolk and Norfolk to purchase stock to be revamped. He finds it incredibly rewarding when customers understand what he is doing and purchase a chair. One customer bought six bespoke chairs and brought a picture in for Andy to see how it changed the look of the room. This is what he loves! Andy has invented a bespoke stool design, which he’s spending time developing further. He hopes to one day be known in the borough as the person to go to for bespoke chairs!
